Cake pops to celebrate Dad!

By Ami Reece June 5, 2018

Father’s Day is coming up on June 17th! That means only one more newsletter before Father’s Day… so here’s something to plan on doing with your kiddos leading up to the day to celebrate the amazing men in their life.

Ingredients

  • Box of cake mix
  • Can of Dad’s favorite frosting (Matt’s is cream cheese!)
  • Paper lollipop sticks
  • Candy melts in Dad’s favorite colors (2-3 is best)
  • Sprinkles (Optional)
  • Styrofoam Block

What to do

  1. Make the cake according to the instructions. Allow to cool and crumble in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add all the frosting and mix well. It should feel like playdough in your hands.
  3. Form 2 inch balls with your hands and set on wax paper. It should hold as a ball.
  4. Melt one of the candy melts in the microwave: Microwave for one minute on low and take out and mix. Return to the microwave for fifteen to thirty seconds and then mix, continue until it’s the consistency of frosting.
  5. Dip a lollipop in the candy melts and stick the ball on top. Insert in the Styrofoam block and put in the fridge, you want these nice and cold as possible. Seriously. Cold.
  6. Melt the rest of the candy melts in the meantime.
  7. Dip and roll the cold cake pop into each candy melt color. Allow the kiddos to play with color. Sprinkles and other decorations are optional but encouraged!
  8. Then, put back in Styrofoam block and put into the fridge.
  9. Once the candy is firm, serve these pops to Pop!
